Swimming And Diving Continues Homestand

Jan. 20, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s swimming and diving team continues its three-meet homestand Saturday when it welcomes Michigan State to the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The Irish (5-3) seek their second dual meet win in as many weeks before wrapping up the regular season by playing host to the Shamrock Invitational (Jan. 27-28).

Live video, audio and results will be available throughout the meet at UND.com.

Despite registering six individual wins when the two programs last met in 2011, Notre Dame narrowly lost to Michigan State, 155.5-144.5. The Spartans own a 6-3 edge in the series history.

Michigan State is the fourth dual meet opponent from the Big Ten Conference to face Notre Dame this season. The Irish lost to Michigan (174-119) and Purdue (184-113) in the first half of the campaign while downing Northwestern (157-143) last week.

Before last season, Notre Dame had not defeated Northwestern in dual meet action since 1990-91. With the 10-meet skid to the Big Ten Conference foe soothed by a victory in 2010-11, Notre Dame began its own streak by posting a victory at the Rolfs Aquatic Center to make it back-to-back wins over the Wildcats.

Frank Dyer, Kevin Overholt and Michael Kreft each tallied a pair of individual wins against Northwestern. Dyer and Overholt were also part of the 400 free relay squad that took first place to seal the win.

Dyer ranks seventh nationally – and first in the BIG EAST Conference – in the 200 free (1:35.58).
