Cameron Miller finished in the top 20 in two different events during last week's U.S. Open

Strong Swim For Stephens Caps Final Day Of U.S. Open

IRVINE, Calif. – University of Notre Dame men’s swimmer Zach Stephens claimed the seventh top-20 finish for Irish Aquatics on the final day of the 2013 United States Open Saturday at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.

Stephens posted the 14th-best preliminary time in the 200-meter individual medley after touching the wall in 2:03.33. The Irish junior swam a near identical 2:03.41 in the race’s B final to finish in 14th place. Stephens added a 19th-place result in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:15.71) earlier in the competition.

Cameron Miller was the second Irish Aquatics athlete in the 200 IM field, posting a preliminary time of 2:08.60 (70th place). Miller was also a member of the 16th-fastest 4X100-meter medley relay squad (3:49.92) and placed 20th in the finals of the 100-meter breaststroke (1:03.22) during the week.

Brennan Jacobsen was the lone Notre Dame entrant in the final distance race of the U.S. Open, placing 38th overall in the 800-meter freestyle Saturday with a time of 8:35.67.

Frank Dyer capped off his seventh event of the week in the 50-meter freestyle, posting a preliminary heat 23.46 (40th place). Dyer picked up the top Irish Aquatics finish earlier in the week in the 400-meter freestyle (3:56.43, eighth place), and added top-20 placements with the 16th place 4X100 medley relay team and in the 200-meter freestyle (1:49.75, 17th place).
