TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – University of Notre Dame women’s divers Emma Gaboury and Lindsey Streepey are heading to Iowa City, Iowa from August 13-18 for the 2013 USA Diving National Championships after qualifying in the 3-meter synchronized springboard at the USA Diving National Preliminary Zone B Championships this past weekend.
The duo becomes the first Irish divers to ever qualify for the national championships in the synchronized specialty. Four-time BIG EAST 3-meter champion Jenny Chiang qualified in 2011 in the 1- and 3-meter springboard events.
Gaboury and Streepey finished third in the prelims (230.55) before moving up to second with a strong final round (241.02).
Streepey will also compete in the 1-meter springboard after placing ninth in the finals with a total score of 225.85. The Dallas, Texas native earned all-BIG EAST honors in March after finishing third in the platform at the conference meet.
