Straub Named ACC Diver of the Week

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — After a record-setting performance in No. 18 Notre Dame’s dominant win at West Virginia over the weekend, senior Kelly Straub has been named ACC women’s Diver of the Week. It marks her second weekly conference honor of the season and fourth in the last two seasons.

Straub rewrote the record books for her second-consecutive week, as she won the battle on the women’s platform, with just .07 points separating first and second. Straub won out with a 273.45, and Annie Wiese took a narrow second with 273.38, both notching Zone-A scores. Both topped the previous Notre Dame program record on the platform (267.35) set by Lindsey Streepy in 2014.

Overall, Straub notched Zone-A scores and wins on tower and the 1-meter (338.10), adding a Zone-B 330.00 on the 3-meter for second place.

Last week at the Shamrock Invitational, Straub set a new program record for the 1-meter (six dives), scoring a 340.35, which broke the previous record that stood since 2012 (Jenny Chiang). Straub was previously named ACC women’s Diver of the Week on Jan. 12 of 2021 following her performance in the dual meet vs. Louisville.

The No. 18 Irish will next take the pool at the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C. from Feb. 17-20 for the women and divers, and Feb. 24-27 for the men’s swimmers.
