Straub Earns Qualification to NCAA Championships

LEXINGTON, Kentucky — ACC bronze medalist diver Kelly Straub continued her success at the Zone C Championships March 7-9, turning in qualifying performances in all three events to compete at the NCAA Championships March 17-20 in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

Straub first turned in a 591.35 score in the women’s 1-meter competition (score added from preliminary round and finals), placing second overall and notching her first NCAA qualification of the meet. On the 3-meter, she continued her success, posting a 617.95 total from both rounds and placing fourth overall. 

To finish out the competition, Straub placed ninth overall in the women’s platform final with a 466.70 total score between the two rounds. 

For the women, the top seven finishers in the 1-meter category were tabbed as automatic qualifiers for the national meet, while the top six qualified on the 3-meter. On women’s platform, the top 10 performers earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Championship. 

Junior David Petrison qualified for Zone finals in one event at the meet, the men’s platform, an event in which he is the Notre Dame record-holder. He placed 15th overall with a cumulative score of 520.35. Junior Austin Flaute also made finals in one event, the men’s 1-meter. He placed 15th overall with a 576.90 total score. While making finals, neither achieved qualification to the national championships.

Straub will join six women’s swimmers to compete in the women’s NCAA Championships March 17-20 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
