ATLANTA, Ga. — The Irish women’s swimming and diving team had all three members competing at the first day of the NCAA Championships on Thursday at the McAuley Aquatic Center. Graduate student Kelly Straub and freshman Calie Brady were on the diving board in the 1-meter diving and senior Luciana Thomas was in the pool for the 500 freestyle.

Straub qualified for the finals in the 1-meter diving and she earned her Honorable Mention All-American status after finishing 14th overall with a 294.55. It is the second straight season she has earned All-American status at NCAA’s as she finished 16th in the 3-meter last season.

Freshman Calie Brady qualified for the 1-meter diving as well as she made her championships debut in her first collegiate season. She finished 37th overall with a 258.40 from the preliminary round.

Thomas took part in her first of two events this week with the 500 freestyle. She placed 26th overall with a personal-best time of 4:43.32. The time ranks second fastest in program history and was just shy of breaking the program record of 4:42.85.

Straub will be the lone Irish competing on Friday as the 3-meter diving prelims are in the morning sessions of events. Then Thomas has her final event of the championships on Saturday in the 200 butterfly.
