Notre Dame, Ind. – Junior Stewart Crosland (Bethesda, Md.) has been named the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) for his performance in Notre Dame’s 10-8 win at No. North Carolina on March 8. The Irish goalie made 16 saves as Notre Dame defeated its third ranked opponent in as many games and earns the honor for the first time in his career.
Crosland has led the Irish to a 3-1 record in 2003 with its only blemish being a 14-8 loss to top-ranked Virginia on Tuesday, March 11. He had 15 saves in Notre Dame 10-9 win at Penn State in the season opener and registered 10 saves against Penn sylvania in the second game of the season. Crosland came up with a career-high 21 saves versus the Cavaliers.
Crosland has started all four games for the Irish this season. Last season, he earned six starts in the three games in the six contest he played and registered a 6.62 goals against average and .677 save percentage.
He is the second Irish player to earn GWLL player-of-the-week honors. Matt Howell was the recipient in the first week of the season.
