Stephen Havens earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Stephen Havens Named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After leading the Fighting Irish men’s tennis team to a 5-2 win over Northwestern this past weekend, junior Stephen Havens (Cincinnati, Ohio/Hill Christian) was named the BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. It marks Havens’ second BIG EAST Player of the Week honor this season.

Havens led the Irish to a 5-2 win over 45th-ranked Northwestern on March 27, posting wins in doubles and singles play. Havens teamed with sophomore Casey Watt (Gibsonia. Pa./ /Pine-Richland) to clinch the doubles point for the Irish after battling Tobias Reitz and Andrew McCarthy to a 9-8 (8-6) tiebreak win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 singles, Havens put the Irish up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 win over McCarthy.

Havens has played the majority of the season at No. 2 singles for the Irish and he now has five wins at No. 2 singles as well as a win at the No. 1 position. He was also named BIG EAST Player of the Week on March 10.

Havens and the Irish will wrap-up their nine-match road swing this weekend when they travel to Texas for matches against SMU and Texas A&M. Check back with und.com for a preview of those matches as the weekend approaches.
