Stastney Named B1G Third Star of the Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind.  – Senior defenseman Spencer Stastney has been named Big Ten Hockey’s Third Star of the Week, the conference announced (Feb. 1).

Stastney helped the Irish to a weekend split with Minnesota, registering a team-high three assists in the two-game series. He had an assist on Landon Slaggert’s overtime game-winning goal in game two (Jan. 30). He also had the primary assist on Max Ellis’ first period goal, which opened the scoring.

For the season, Stastney ranks third on the team with 20 points on five goals and a team-high 15 assists. Stastney has now tallied a point in eight of Notre Dame’s last nine contests (3-8-11) and has a three-game point streak (1-5-6).

A preseason All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection, it marks Stastney’s first career Big Ten Star of the Week honor. Earlier this season, he was named a 2022 Senior Class Award Candidate (Dec. 8).
