No. 5 Stanford bounced back from last night’s 3-2 loss to Notre Dame by defeating Denver in both team’s final match of the Shamrock Invitational. The win improved Stanford to 2-1 in the tournament while the loss dropped Denver to 0-3.

The first set was very competitive with neither team taking a definitive advantage. With the set tied at 22-22, the Cardinal went on a 3-0 run to take the opening frame.

In the second, the Pioneers took a 20-17 lead but the Cardinal pecked their way back to tie the set at 22-22. Stanford went on to win the set, 25-23.

From the start of the third set it was all Stanford as they took control early and never relinquished the lead. Stanford won the set, 25-20, to complete the sweep.

Leading the Cardinal was junior Cassidy Lichtman who was one kill shy of a triple-double. She finished the match with nine kills on 18 attempts to go with 20 assists and 12 digs.

For the Pioneers, junior setter Kreeson Vreeman had 40 of the team’s 42 assists. She also contributed seven digs and one kill.

The Cardinal return to the court next Friday against No. 8 Florida while Denver hosts Southern Utah on the same day.
