AS A JUNIOR (2023-24)

  • Appeared in 26 games with 26 starts, averaging 17.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 35.8 minutes per game. Shot 46 percent from the floor and 35.9 percent from deep
  • Led the ACC and broke the Notre Dame single-season record with a 91.2 percent success rate from the free throw line
  • Citron’s 17.3 points per game were the sixth most by an Irish junior in program history
  • Citron’s 35.8 minutes per game were tied for the fourth highest average in program history
  • Made 46 3-pointers on the year, the ninth most by an Irish junior in program history
  • Posted her first double-double of the season in the Round of 32 win over Ole Miss (17p/10r/6a)
  • Scored 29 points against Kent State in the NCAA Tournament First Round, tying her career-high. Was one of just three players with 13 FGM in the First Round
  • In the ACC Tournament, averaged 18.7 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game. Was named to the All-Tournament First Team
  • Scored 26 points against Louisville in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals

  • At UVA on Jan. 18, Citron became the 43rd player in Irish WBB history to score 1,000 points. She also had 28 points on the day and went 12-12 from the free throw line, just the seventh player in Notre Dame WBB history to do so

AS A SOPHOMORE (2022-23)

  • Led Notre Dame with 14.7 points per game, also posted 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 33.5 minutes per game
  • Shot 40% from 3-point range and 47.6% from the field
    • 47.6% from the field ranked fifth in the ACC and second among guards
  • First player with back-to-back 25+ point games — at Louisville (2/26/23) and vs NC State (3/3/23) — since Arike Ogunbowale in 2018
  • Posted a 13-game double-digit scoring streak from 11/12/22 (Cal)-1/8/23 (UNC)
  • Started game against UVA with six straight made 3s on six attempts (Notre Dame record is seven set in 2000)
  • Ranks all-time amongst ND sophomores:

AS A FRESHMAN (2021-22)

  • ACC Freshman of the Year – joined Maddy Westbeld (2021) and Bri Turner (2015) in earning the honor.
  • Six-time ACC Freshman of the Week – Citron tied 2019 alumna Brianna Turner for the program record in the ACC and tied both Alicia Ratay and Jacqueline Batteast for the program record in the Big East.
  • NCAA Tournament — averaged 14.0 points on 13-of-26 shooting (.500), including a 15-of-16 mark from the free-throw line.
  • Exploded in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament with her 2nd highest scoring output of the season, pouring in 25 points against Oklahoma. Citron converted on a career best 11-for-11 from free-throw line. It marked the best Irish free-throw performance since Arike Ogunbowale went 12-for-12 vs Louisville on 1/10/19.
  • In her NCAA Tournament debut, Citron iced the game with 9 points in the 4th quarter vs UMass.
  • Finished strong down the stretch – double figures in 15 of her last 18 games.
  • Freshman-Only ACC rankings — ranked second in scoring, first in rebounding and third in assists – only player in top-three of all three categories. Citron had the highest PTS+REB+AST/game of any ACC freshman with her 20.7.
  • One of two freshmen in the entire country who averaged at least 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5 steals. The other was Harvard’s Harmoni Turner.
  • ESPN ranked Citron as the sixth best freshman. Olivia Miles was second. Notre Dame was the only program with two players on its top-10 freshman midseason list. ND was also the only P5 school with two freshmen who averaged double-digit points — Out of all Division-I schools it was just ND and Pacific University.
  • Citron was ND’s best rebounding guard, averaging 6.6 boards/game, which ranked second on the team and 10th in the ACC. She reeled in 7.7 rebounds/game in ACC play, which ranked seventh.
  • Four of her five double-doubles occurred from Jan. 16 on — Against No. 21 UNC on Jan. 16, Citron netted a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double in a game in which she didn’t even play the whole second quarter. Double-double in win over Syracuse on Jan. 27 – 13 points and 12 rebounds, in which she recorded 10 points and 4 boards in the 4th quarter. A 10-point, 11-rebound double-double in win at No. 16 Georgia Tech on Feb. 17. And most recently, her 21-point, 13-rebound D.D. vs Clemson, her first of 20-plus points.
  • ND’s best free-throw shooter, connecting on 84.3 percent – which ranked second in the ACC & 55th in the nation.
  • ND’s two freshmen were its two best defensive rebounders: Miles ranked sixth in the ACC while Citron ranked eighth (4.9 per game).
  • Lone Irish in double figures at No. 2 UConn, scoring 19 points in Storrs.
  • Sonia played hero at Michigan State on Dec. 2, going off for a career high 29 points (in 28 minutes) on 9-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep. She scored 21 in the second half, including 13 in the fourth quarter. Her 29 points were the most off the bench in program history.
  • Ninth different Irish freshman to score 29 or more points in a game: List includes Bri Turner, Lindsay Schrader, Marina Mabrey, Arike Ogunbowale, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Sam Brunelle, Alicia Ratay, Olivia Miles.

PREP AND PERSONAL

    • Became the 24th Irish player to earn the accolade

  • Finished with 2,243 career points and 1,192 career rebounds
  • Averaged 26.5 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 5.0 apg during her senior year
  • Citron had a fitting prep sendoff, claiming the Southern Westchester Group 1 championship with an 84-45 win over White Plains. The Koalas went 14-0 in 2021.
  • Citron ended her high school career with 38 consecutive victories.
  • Ultimately went 79-5 at Ursuline
  • 2020 NYSSWA Class AA Player of the Year
  • 2020 Section 1 Girls Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year
  • 2020 Journal News Player of the Year in Westchester/Putnam
  • Led Ursuline to a perfect 24-0 record as a junior, guiding the Koalas to their first Section 1 title since 2003. Citron was named the MVP of the Section 1 Class AA Tournament. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic forced the NYSPHSAA to cancel the remainder of the state tournament.
  • Was the Section I runner-up in 2019, finishing with a 22-2 record
  • By end of her junior year, Citron had broken all of Ursuline’s girls basketball records, amassing 1,874 career points and 1,035 rebounds.
    • Citron averaged 23.8 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 4.3 assists and 2.9 blocks
  • Averaged 20+ ppg all four years
  • Four-time All-State selection
  • Played in both 2019 and 2020 Slam Magazine All-Star game and Slam Dunk Tournaments, winning first place MVP in the latter
  • Was the Rose Classic All-Star Game MVP
  • Played AAU with the Philadelphia Belles with Olivia Miles during the 2019-20 season. Prior, she played for the New York Hoopers from 2017-19
  • Won gold with the USA U19 Team at the 2021 FIBA World Cup. Citron was selected for the Tournament All-Star Five Team. She averaged 14.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg.
  • USA U-16 National Team member in 2019
    • Started in all six games and averaged 13.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Helped Team USA to a 6-0 record and gold medal in Chile. Citron was named to the All-Tournament Team.
