As a Junior (2023-24)

  • Played in 32 games with 19 starts, averaging 22.7 min.
  • Coach Shrewsberry often said, “J.R. brings such a joy to the game.” Classic hustle-play guy. Making the most of his opportunity after spending 611 days away from donning an Irish uniform on the court.
  • Shot 33.0 percent from deep. Had a higher percentage in ACC play at 40.6 percent.
  • Averaged 7.4 points and 4.0 rebounds in ACC play. Shooting 39.5 percent from the field.
  • Led the team in double-doubles with 4.
  • Team-wise: 3rd most rebounds (4.5), 3rd most O-boards (1.4).
  • Perfect 4-for-4 shooting night at Louisville (2/21) to secure 9 points with his 5 rebounds.
  • 10-point, 11-rebound, double-double at Georgia Tech on Jan. 9. 11 rebounds tied his career high.
  • A career-high four made three-pointers in a 14-point showing at #8 Miami (12/2).
  • Man possessed to start the Virginia game, starting 4-for-4 from three and 6-for-6 from the field. He scored all 17 of his points in the first half to give the Irish a demanding 17-point lead by halftime.
  • A breakout week at the Legends Classic for Konieczny. He produced back-to-back double-doubles in games against Auburn and Oklahoma St. He averaged 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds. He also earned his first career start in the win over OKST (11/17).
    • J.R. entered Legends Classic week with 15 points and 3 rebounds to his name through 8 career ND games. Then over those 2 games, he produced a total of 29 points and 21 rebounds. J.R. constantly attacked the offensive glass, grabbing 8 O-Boards over the 2 games.
    • Against Auburn (11/16): First Irish double-double off the bench since Nate Laszewski at Miami on Jan. 24, 2021.

As a Sophomore (2022-23)

As a Freshman (2021-22)

  • Played in seven games for the Irish, averaging 3.3 minutes off the bench. 
  • Scored in four games, including a season high four points against Georgia Tech on Feb. 26. 
  • Tallied his first collegiate three-pointer against Pittsburgh on March 5.

  • Played for Mark Adams and the Indiana Elite on the AAU circuit.

  • Joins classmate Blake Wesley as the first Northern Indiana Conference players to sign to play at Notre Dame since Demetrius Jackson (Marian) and Austin Torres (Penn) in 2012.
  • First St. Joseph basketball player on the Notre Dame roster since Pete Miller, who joined the Irish in 1993 as a walk on and eventually earned a scholarship and served as team captain his senior season.

Personal: 

  • Son of Debbie and Doug Konieczny, along with sister, Nicole and brother, Chase.
  • Nicole led the St. Joseph’s girls basketball team to the 2017 Class 3A state championship, began her collegiate career at Valparasio and is entering her senior year at Stephen F. Austin.
