HONORS AND AWARDS:

  • 2017-18 Team Captain
  • 2017 DeCicco/Langford Award Winner

AS A SENIOR:

  • Finished the season with a 25-22 record
  • Competed in five of six meets for the Irish in 2017-18
  • Opened the season with a 6-2 record at the Elite Invitational
  • Concluded the season with a 5-4 record at the ACC Championships

AS A JUNIOR:

  • Returned to the Irish and put together a 29-10 record in dual meets
  • Went undefeated at Elite Invitational (6-0), NYU Invitational (3-0), and DeCicco Duals (5-0)
  • Helped the Irish to the ACC Championship by going 4-1 during team play
  • Shared the team’s DeCicco/Langford Award with Zachary Zeller, given to “that mainstay of the team who inspires his teammates in victory, consoles them in defeat, and is there for Monday’s practice to push them to further achievement.”

AS A SOPHOMORE:

  • Did not compete due to Olympic training

AS A FRESHMAN:

  • Posted an 18-9 record in initial campaign  
  • Ended the season with a statement performance at DeCicco Duals, posting an undefeated 11-0 record  
  • Earned the No. 6 seed at NCAA Midwest Regional competition  
  • Eliminated in first round of direct elimination bouts by Zain Shaito of Ohio State, 15-14  
  • Earned a monogram

PREP & PERSONAL:

  • Graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in May 2013
  • Attended same high school as current women’s foilist Lee Kiefer
  • Both foilists compete with the Bluegrass Fencer’s Club out of Lexington, Kentucky  
  • Serves as an assistant coach with the club
  • Has competed at numerous international events, twice being a national finalist  
  • As a freshman, medaled in the North American Cup, and was a finalist for the Egyptian National Team  
  • As a junior, admitted as a member of the Egyptian National Fencing Team and captained the Egyptian U-17 National Team  
  • Earned 16th place at the U-17 World Championships  
  • As a senior was a finalist at the U-20 level in both individual and team competition  
  • Captained the Egyptian U-20 National Fencing Team  
  • Admitted to the senior Egyptian National Team  
  • At Senior African Championships, finished seventh in individual competition  
  • Competed as a member of the Gold-medal team at the Senior African Championships
  • Lived in Egypt for eight years before moving to Kentucky with family  
  • Oldest child of Amgad and Amira Khazbak
  • Has one sister, Maya  
  • Father, Amgad, fenced at the Cairo University in Egypt
  • Biggest athletic thrill to date has been competing in the World Championships and earning a gold medal in the African Championships team event in 2013
