Entry 1: Introduction

For those of you who aren’t already aware, the Notre Dame men’s soccer team is going on a 14-day journey to experience the sights and sounds of Scotland.

Despite the excitement of experiencing a new culture, as well as meeting new faces and seeing new places, this hiatus is no simple holiday. Instead, the homeland of Bobby Clark, our head coach, will serve as an intense preseason training site and, hopefully, a breeding ground for the Irish’s first national championship.

Our trip will consist of five competitive matches to be played on Scotland’s lush green fields, mixed in with several rigorous training sessions, and, of course, random recovery exercises such as wading into the frigid North Sea! There is plenty of potential for interesting stories and humorous situations since the 18 boys will be staying in three six-person flats, all sharing chores like cooking, going for groceries, and doing laundry.

Before I go, I should take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Greg Martin and I am a junior captain and center midfielder for the Irish. I’d like to extend a personal invitation to all of you to follow us along on our voyage beginning this Friday, August 2. I’ll keep you posted on the daily excitement of our trip, but until next time….

May the Luck of the Irish be with You!
