Notre Dame tied for second in country, paced by six best-in-the-nation honors.

Lizzie Mikes is entering her third year working within the Media Relations department after assisting the department in the 2012-13 school year.

In her current position, Mikes coordinates all football, men’s and women’s basketball and Olympic sports media credential requests with the sports information directors for each program, in addition to acting as the media liaison for the mens swimming and diving program and the eight-time National Champion Fighting Irish men’s and women’s fencing teams. She also manages the office’s photo archive program, CatDVPro.

In her first year at Notre Dame, Mikes handled various office duties, including drafting and editing Olympic sports media guides and issuing men’s and women’s basketball credentials before stepping in as the media contact for the Irish fencing team at the 2013 NCAA Championships held in San Antonio, Texas. Mikes traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. to assist at the men’s lacrosse and women’s rowing NCAA Championships in spring 2013 as well.

Mikes is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University, having received her Bachelors degree in sports, entertainment and event management while minoring in sports marketing. She attended the North Miami, Fla. campus after having previously attained her Associates degree in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y.

Before coming to Notre Dame, Mikes worked in her alma mater’s student conduct office as an administrative assistant and was active within her sorority, Alpha Sigma Tau. In addition to holding numerous chapter positions, Mikes was also elected to Johnson & Wales’ Greek Council as recording secretary. During her two-year term on the Council, Mikes was instrumental in reorganizing the Council’s bylaws and constitution documents.

Born in Golden Valley, Minn., Mikes is the eldest child of two Notre Dame alums, Patrick and Barbara, and has two younger brothers, Pat Jr. and Andrew. Her mother was a Fulbright Scholar at the University, and her name is still displayed on campus in O’Shaughnessy Hall. Andrew is a freshman at Notre Dame.

In her free time, Mikes enjoys putting her culinary degree to good use by entertaining family and friends. While born outside Minneapolis, Mikes was raised in Troy, Mich., and enjoys rooting for Detroit and Minnesota sports teams equally -but favors the Red Wings and Vikings as her two favorite teams.

Mikes resides in South Bend and shares her home with her boyfriend and a cavalier king charles spaniel named Elsa.
