MADISON, Wisc. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennisteam, ranked No. 11 in the country, won an important Midwestregion match on Thursday afternoon as is defeated No.10-rankedWisconsin by a 5-4 score.
Notre Dame won four of six singles matches, paced by sophomoreMarisa Velasco at No. 2 and senior Tiffany Gates, at No. 3, butthe Badgers tied the match at 4-4 by winning the top two doublesmatches.
The Irish tandem of Courtney Haskell and Kelley Olson came throughfor the Irish at No. 3 doubles to post an 8-6 victory and give theIrish the win. Other singles winners for Notre Dame were KellyZalinski at No. 4 and Olson at No. 5.
Notre Dame improves to 7-3 overall while the Badgers fall to 6-4.
