Notre Dame Women’s Swimming Takes Third at Rainbow Invitational

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Notre Dame’s women’s swimming team finished third at the Rainbow Invitational at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Texas A&M claimed the title with 133 points while Wisconsin was second with 65. The Irish were three points behind behind the Badgers with 62.

Notre Dame was paced by runner-up finishes from Linda Gallo in the 500 freestyle (4:56.96), Erin Brooks in the 100 backstroke (57.78) and Shannon Suddarth in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.59). Gallo also took third in the 200 individual medley (2:08.84) while Suddarth placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.79), ahead of teammate Brittany Kline who was fourth (1:07.64).

The Irish had their best results in the 200 butterfly where they placed three swimmers in the top seven. Alison Newell took third (2:06.18) with Liz Barger sixth (2:07.28) and Lauren Relay seventh (2:07.92).

Notre Dame returns to the pool when it begins its winter dual-meet season against Bowling Green on Fri., Jan. 17, at 5:00 p.m. at Rolfs Aquatic Center.
