Gaither, Peirick Lead No. 16 Notre Dame to Record-Tying Victory

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Senior center Katryna Gaither scored 18 pointsand grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and junior guard Mollie Peiricknetted 17 points and grabbed a personal best 11 rebounds for her firstcareer double-double to lead No. 16 Notre Dame to a 68-51 victory over Villanova. The win improves the Irish to 23-5 overall and 15-1 in the Big East asNotre Dame ties its school single-season wins record.

Gaither’s double-double was the 11th of the season and third in the lastfour games. She played all 40 minutes of the game, a first for Gaitherin her career.

Jeannine Augustin was also in double figures for Notre Dame as shescored 10 points, dished off a career-high nine assists and grabbed sixrebounds.

Notre Dame, which never trailed in the contest, shot 49.1 percent fromthe field for the game and held Villanova to just 28.6 percent shootingfrom the field.

The Wildcats, who fell to 13-11 overall and 8-8 in the Big East, had twoplayers in double figures. Freshman Jenea Skeeters, a three-time BigEast Rookie of the Week honoree, led all scorers with 23 points. Sheconnected on 8-of-19 shots from the field and was 5-of-7 fromthree-point range. Skeeters was one of two Villanova players who playedthe entire game. Jen Sliwa, who was the only other player in doublefigures for the Wildcats with 13 points, also played all 40 minutes ofthe contest.

Notre Dame dominated Villanova on the boards as the Irish held a 48-26rebounding advantage. Seven of eight players who saw action in the gamefor Notre Dame scored.

Notre Dame also made 15-of-17 from the free throw line.

Villanova attempted 27 three-pointers and hit nine from long-range.
