No. 17-Notre Dame Defeats Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Katryna Gaither had a game-high 25 points to lead 17th-ranked Notre Dame to an 87-47 win over Seton Hall in BIG EAST women’s basketball action at Walsh Gym.

Gaither shot 11-for-16 from the field and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to lead the Irish. Sheila McMillen tallied 17 points while Jeannine Augustin had nine points and handed out eight assists and Beth Morgan scored nine points.

Notre Dame stormed out to a 22-3 lead in the first 10 minutes and increased it to 36-15 by halftime. Seton Hall was held to under 10 points until 5:37 remained in the first half as it shot just 19 percent in the half and committed 17 turnovers while the Irish shot 44.1 percent from the field.

The Irish continued the pace in the second half, converting 19-of-24 field goals (79.2) and taking their biggest lead, 76-33, at the 5:22 mark.

Notre Dame converted 58.6 percent of its field goals in the game while Seton Hall was limited to 26.8 percent.

Senior Tahnee Heins (Valatie, NY) was the only Pirate in double figures, scoring 14 points. Sophomore Danielle Golay (Manassas, VA) had nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Senior Dana Wynne (Orange, NJ) was limited to nine points and four rebounds before fouling out.

It marked the worst defeat for Seton Hall since an 80-36 loss to Connecticut in 1994-95. It was the lowest point total for the Pirates since a 73-40 loss at Connecticut last season.

Notre Dame improves to 10-3 and 2-0 in the BIG EAST. Seton Hall suffers its third consecutive loss and drops to 3-8 and 0-3 in the conference.
