No. 9 Notre Dame Claims Comfort Inn Downtown Classic

Atlanta — The Irish used a 20-2 run early in the second half to overcome a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Georgia Tech 76-69 in the championship game of the Comfort Inn Downtown Classic played on the Georgia Tech campus.

Senior Beth Morgan scored a game-high 29 points while adding a career-high 12 rebounds. Morgan was one of two Notre Dame players named to the all-tournament team.

Notre Dame Senior Katryna Gaither was named most valuable player of the tournament after her 28th career double-double against the Yellow Jackets. The 6-3 center had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the finals after scoring a school record 40 points in a first round victory over Ohio.

The Irish trailed 42-28 at the half and by 16 points early in the second half. But a 20-2 run brought Notre Dame back in the game and the Irish pulled away for the win.

Notre Dame (6-1) plays at Purdue this Thursday before returning home to face Big East foe Providence next Saturday.
