No. 29 Notre Dame Defeats Tribe Tennis

FAIRFAX, Va. — Notre Dame’s men’s tennis team defeated William & Mary 6-1 on Saturday to raise its record to 6-0 on the season, the best start since 1992 when the Irish started 6-0 and finished second in the country. Notre Dame returns to the court when it travels to Kentucky on Feb. 11.

Notre Dame started the match by winning the doubles point as sophomore Dan Rothschild and senior Ryan Simme defeated Christian Jordan and Anshuman Vohra 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. The Irish would struggle at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles as Notre Dame went to tiebreakers in both matches to secure the doubles point.

The Irish cruised in the singles competition, winning five of the six singles matches, four of those wins in straight sets. Rothschild made quick work of Ian Boettcher at No. 5 singles as he won 6-1, 6-0 to give Notre Dame a 2-0 lead. The Irish would go on to win at Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4 singles in the 6-1 win.
