ND Men’s Swimming Falls Short Against St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Notre Dame’s men’s swimming team sawits four-meet winning streak snapped Saturday in a close 118.5-112.5loss at St. Bonaventure. The Irish were coming off a close 126-115 winover Buffalo on Friday but St. Bonaventure held off Notre Dame’s rallyfor the win. The Irish had won four-straight dual meets since a loss toPittsburgh on November 15, but now stand at 6-4 with the loss.

Notre Dame fell behind early as St. Bonaventure won the first fiveevents to build a 59-34 lead before the Irish rallied. Freshman HerbHuesman won Notre Dame’s first event as he claimed the one-meter divingand senior Ry Beville won the 200 butterfly to narrow the gap.

After St. Bonaventure won the 100 freestyle, sophomores Chris Fugateand Jeff Page finished in the first one-two in the 200 backstroke forNotre Dame. Two events later, Huesman won his second diving event ofthe meet as he took first in the three-meter event to cap the Irishrally and tie the score at 97.5 for each team.

St. Bonaventure then came back to win the final two events to closeout the win. Notre Dame returns to the pool with its final home dualmeet of the season against Western Kentucky on Friday, Feb. 7 at 4:00p.m. at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
