David Brown and the Irish saw their season end on March 24, with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Michigan State in the Midwest Regional final. Brown made 23 saves in that game. In the opening game of the tournament, the senior goaltender set an Notre Dame record by playing 95:18 as the Irish played the longest game in the program’s history, defeating Alabama-Huntsville, 3-2, in double overtime. The Stoney Creek, Ont., native made 28 saves in that game. For the post season (CCHA and NCAA Tournament), Brown played in all six games and was 5-1-0 with a 1.07 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage (seven goals on 143 shots). The CCHA player of the year and tournament MVP, Brown finished the season with a 30-6-3 overall record to go with a 1.58 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage. He also recorded six shutouts during the season. He leads the nation in wins (30) and goals-against average (1.58) while his six shutouts tie him for second and his save percentage also is tied for second in the country. Brown has helped lead the Irish to the best team defense in the nation as Notre Dame is surrendering just 1.67 goals-per-game. The team’s top penalty killer, Brown has the irish tops in that category as they have killed 90.4% (189 of 209) power plays on the season. The senior goaltender is also one of 10 finalists for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, an award that is based on the personal qualities that define a complete student-athlete in the areas of the classroom, character and community, in addition to performance on the hockey rink during the season. Brown has already won Notre Dame’s Perani Cup Award for stars-of-the game with four First Stars, five Second Stars and one Third Star selections.
