SERIES NOTES
*–Air Force defeats Notre Dame for the first time since 1985 when the Falcons won 21-15.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
*–RON POWLUS broke a school record with 11 consecutive completed passes dating back to lastweek. Powlus connected on his last four passes against Washington and completed his firstseven attempts against Air Force to set the record. The previous record of ten was held byfive individuals and was accomplished most recently by Tony Rice. Powlus was 16-24 for a season high 268 yards against Air Force.

*–HUNTER SMITH’s first quarter punt of 65 yards is the longest of his career. His previous long was 58 yards set last season against Northwestern.

*–ALLEN ROSSUM, who never returned a punt for Notre Dame prior to today, took his second career punt return 57 yards for a touchdown. In his last 13 games (dating back to the Washington game last season), Rossum has returned an interception (76 yards against Washington10/7/95), a kickoff (99 yards against Purdue 9/14/96), a punt (57 yards vs. Air Force today)and a defensive extra point (98 yards off block PAT against Texas 9/23/95) for touchdowns.The touchdown marked the first Irish punt return for a score since Emmett Mosley returneda punt for 64 yards and a touchdown against Texas on September 23, 1995.Rossum’s return for a touchdown is the first time Air Force has allowed a punt return touchdown since December 28, 1989 against Mississippi State.

*–MARC EDWARDS gave Notre Dame a fourth quarter lead with a one yard rushing touchdown, ForEdwards, it was his fourth rushing touchdown of the season, and his sixth TD total of the season. In his career, Edwards now has 23 rushing touchdown and 28 TD’s total.

AIR FORCE NOTES
*–BEAU MORGAN carried 23 times for a season high 183 yards against the Irish to post his fourth100-yard rushing game this season and the 11th of his career. His rushing touchdown today isthe 31st of his career which moves him into third place on the Air Force career list.

*–JASON SANDERSON’s sack is the first of his career.

*–FRANK STAINE-PYNE’s tackle for loss is the first of his career.

*–Halfback TODD EILERS, the projected starter this season, played for the first time this season. He’s been out with a pulled leg muscle.
