Notre Dame Cross Country Teams Win Ohio State Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Notre Dame’s men’s and women’s cross country team sweptthe competition as the Irish claimed the top seven spots in both themen’s and women’s fields at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus,Ohio, on Friday. The men claimed the title with 15 points, while hostOhio State was second with 60 points and Ashland was third with 69. Onthe women’s side, the Irish won with 15 points followed by Ashland with58 and Ohio State with 69.

The men were paced by sophomore Ryan Maxwell who took home firstplace with his time of 25:14.1 for the course. Junior trackAll-American Jason Rexing was second while seniors Matt Althoff, JoeDunlop and 1995 cross country All-American Derek Seiling rounded out thetop five for Notre Dame.

Two freshmen took the top two spots for Notre Dame on the women’sside. Joanna Deeter and Nicole LaSelle claimed the top two spots withtimes of 17:20.4 and 17:34.3. Junior Gretchen Weiher, senior HeidiReichenbach and sophomore Kelly Peterson rounded out the top five.

The Irish run in their second consecutive meet when the squadstravel to Valparaiso for the Valparaiso Invitational on Saturday.
