University of Notre Dame baseball junior pitcher Peter Solomon has been tabbed a Baseball America Preseason All-American. In a team voted on by Major League Baseball scouting directors, Solomon was named a third team selection.

Solomon (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joseph) led the Irish in strikeouts a season ago with 71, while posting a 3-6 record with a 4.68 ERA in nine starts. That followed an abbreviated freshman campaign where Solomon went 2-0 with four saves and a 1.40 ERA in 19.1 innings prior to a shoulder injury that cut his rookie season short.

He entered Notre Dame as Baseball America’s top high school pitcher in Maryland and was a 21st round draft pick of the San Diego Padres in 2014.

Solomon and the Irish open the 2017 campaign on Friday, Feb. 17, against Lafayette in the Alamo Irish Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Notre Dame and Lafayette will be joined by Saint Louis and Incarnate Word for the annual tournament.

The home opener is slated for Tuesday, March 21, against Northern Illinois. Season passes are available now at UND.com/baseballtix.
