Solomon earns ACC title on Day 1

RALEIGH, N.C. — Carter Solomon continues to be a dominant distance force in the ACC. 

On Thursday, the sophomore won the 10,000-meter event at the ACC Championships at NC State with a time of 30:18.84. He narrowly earned the exciting victory, finishing 0.12 seconds before Syracuse’s Paul O’Donnell.

John Keenan was the other Irish track star to earn a medal on Thursday, taking second place in the javelin (70.39 meters). Keenan broke the school record in the event two weeks ago at the Texas Invitational. 

On the women’s side, sophomore Alaina Brady got the ball rolling in the heptathlon women’s 100-meter hurdles. She posted a time of 13.69, which was the top mark. She was second in the shot put (12.82 meters). Senior Caroline Lewis tied for the top mark in the heptathlon 200-meter finals with a time of 24.64. Brady sits third overall after Day 1, while Lewis is fifth. The event will conclude on Friday with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter event.

There are two days to go in Raleigh, and Friday’s events will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s javelin.
