Softball To Host Fundraiser Benefitting Wounded Warriors

Aug. 5, 2013

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame softball team will host a pair of exhibition games Sunday, Sept. 29th at Melissa Cook Stadium, with proceeds benefitting the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST).

Admission is $5 per person at the stadium gate on game day. Fans are also encouraged to bring a glove to donate to Gloves 4 Troops, an organization that sends baseball and softball gloves overseas to provide United States combat forces with recreational activities while serving abroad.

The Irish will face the Wounded Warriors to open the afternoon, with first pitch set for noon (ET)*. The game is one of Notre Dame’s annual fall contests at Melissa Cook Stadium, and will coincide with the program’s alumni weekend events.

The Notre Dame Celebrity Slow-Pitch Game, featuring men’s basketball head coach Mike Brey, former women’s swimmer and current Notre Dame Monogram Club president Haley Scott DeMaria (’95) and former women’s basketball player Danielle Green (’99), against the Wounded Warriors is scheduled for approximately 1:30 p.m.* Irish hockey head coach Jeff Jackson will manage the Notre Dame squad, and other alumni and university figures will comprise the remainder of the team’s roster.

For more information on the fundraiser, contact the Notre Dame softball office at (574) 631-3750, and follow the Irish @NDSoftball and @NDcoachGumpf on Twitter.
