NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Seven players combined to cop 11 hits for Notre Dame as the Irish posted a 7-2 BIG EAST Conference softball victory over Connecticut Sunday at Melissa Cook Stadium. The win was the sixth straight for Notre Dame (17-10 overall, 3-0 BIG EAST) and 17th consecutive against the Huskies to help sweep the three-game league series.

Notre Dame’s seven-game homestand comes to a close at 5:00 p.m. (ET) Wednesday (April 4) with a home bout versus Northwestern. Live video, audio and stats will be available at UND.com.

The Irish received three hits from Amy Buntin and two apiece off the bats of Katey Haus and Alexa Maldonado. Dani Miller doubled home a pair of runs and drove in another with a sacrifice fly. Emilee Koerner and Haus also doubled during the contest.

Starting pitcher Laura Winter (10-6) fooled four Connecticut (13-14, 3-3) batters with strikeouts and did not issue a walk in the complete-game victory. Winter surrendered eight hits and two earned runs and helped her cause with a sacrifice fly in the third. Winter used 86 pitches for the win and 69 of those went for strikes.

Kiki Saveriano (8-7) received one run of offensive support in the opening inning on Amy Vaughan’s RBI double but saw the lead wiped clean in the bottom half of the frame when Miller and Haus each doubled in Notre Dame’s three runs of the stanza.

The Irish waited until the third to post three more runs, including Koerner’s RBI double to center and Winter’s sacrifice fly. Haus scored an unearned run on the lone error of the game, a throwing error by Emily O’Donnell after Kasey O’Connor dribbled a grounder to the opposing shortstop.

O’Donnell led the Huskies with two hits.

Saveriano was yanked after 2.2 innings in which she gave up seven hits and five earned runs.

Ali Adelman stepped up to finish the contest and was tagged for four hits and one earned run.
