Softball's Mallorie Lenn Earns A Spot On The U.S. Junior National Team

Freshman catcher/infielder Mallorie Lenn, yet to play an official game for the University of Notre Dame softball team, has been selected as a member of the 2002 Junior Women’s National Team. The 17 players on the squad will represent the USA at the first Pan American Junior Women’s Softball Championship in Sonora, Republic of Mexico, on Dec. 13-21. Lenn attended the team try out Oct. 3-5, at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., and was selected for the team.

The USA Junior Team will be competing for a spot in the 2003 ISF Junior Women’s World Championship, held in Nanjing, China, in 2003. The women’s junior team will train together Dec. 7-12, in a yet-to-be-determined site before heading to Sonora.

The United States captured gold at the 1987 and 1995 World Junior Championships and finished second to Japan in 1999.

The 2003 season begins for the Notre Dame softball team Saturday, Feb. 15, at the USF/Wilson softball tournament in Tampa, Fla.
