NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame junior outfielder Danielle Klayman (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore catcher Jarrah Myers (Carbondale, Kan.) have been named to the 2000 GTE Softball Academic All-District V First Team. Both are now eligible for national honors, which will be announced June 8.
Klayman is a three-year starter in the outfield for the Irish, having earned first team all-BIG EAST honors twice in 1998 and 2000. A team co-captain, she is batting .316 with 27 runs scored, 10 doubles, 12 stolen bases and 18 RBI. Klayman ranks second in the Notre Dame career record books in the toughest to strikeout category, while earning the team’s Knute Rockne Student-Athlete award in 1999.
Myers has been a two-year starter for the Irish at the catching position in 2000 and at third base in 1999. She recently was voted to the all-BIG EAST first team after receiving conference rookie-of-the-year honors a year ago. She is second on the team this season in home runs (11) and RBI (46), while posting a .333 batting average. A member of the University’s academic honors program for student-athletes, Myers is the team’s 2000 recipient of the Knute Rockne Student-Athlete award.
The Notre Dame softball team (46-12) is currently ranked 17th in the nation after capturing its second consecutive BIG EAST championship last weekend. The Irish will find out their destination for the NCAA regionals on Sunday, May 14.
