STARKSVILLE, Miss.- Notre Dame’s Stephanie Brown (Chandler, Ariz./Corona del Sol) has been selected to the 2007 National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s (NFCA) Mideast All-Region First Team as an outfielder, the organization announced this afternoon, May 16.

During the 2007 season, Brown leads Notre Dame and is among the conference leaders in overall batting average (.432), on-base percentage (.491), runs scored (40), hits (67), triples (2) and stolen bases (13). Also for the third time in her career, she was an all-BIG EAST First Team selection. Brown’s 2007 batting average of .432 is the school’s highest ever for a single season and places her 16th nationally. The senior also recently broke the Irish all-time career runs record and has now crossed the plated 166 times in her career.

Brown, a member of Notre Dame’s Academic Honors Program for Student-Athletes, is set to earn her marketing degree with a minor in peace studies from the Mendoza College of Business this month.

Since she was a first team All-Region selection, Brown will now go on to the national ballot with the possibility of being an NFCA All-American for the second time in her career. She was a third-team NFCA All-American in 2006.

Among the other 2007 honors and awards Brown is in contention for is the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award and a spot on ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-America team.

Notre Dame (31-22) begins play in the NCAA Tournament in the Evanston Regional against Illinois State (42-15-1) on Friday, May 18 at noon (CT).
