Play has been suspended at the Judi Garman Classic Friday evening, as steady rain showers forced field two into an unplayable condition. The University of Notre Dame softball team was leading Florida State 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning when play was halted.

Notre Dame scored their run in the top of the second inning when junior Stephanie Brown singled through the right side, stole second base and scored on an RBI single up the middle by freshman Alexandra Kotcheff. The games will resume on Saturday morning, with a site and time yet to be determined at the time of this release.

The outcome of the Notre Dame – Florida State contest is crucial to determine the second seed from their respective pool for position in the championship bracket. Both the Irish and Seminoles are 1-1 in the tournament and in contention for the second seed. The two most likely opponents the winner or loser of the Notre Dame – Florida State matchup could face are Louisiana-Lafayette or Washington.

Keep and eye on www.und.com throughout the late evening hours and even early Saturday morning for an exact time for when the game will continue.
