Softball Freshman Mallorie Lenn Invited To Junior National Team Camp

University of Notre Dame softball freshman C/1B Mallorie Lenn (Garden Grove, Calif.) has been invited to the Junior Women’s National Team Camp, set for Oct. 3-6, at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

USA Softball will select will select a roster of 17 players to represent the USA at the 1st Pan American Junior Women’s Softball Championship.

The Pan American Softball Championship will be in Snoroa, Republic of Mexico, on Dec. 13-21. The top five teams from this championship will earn a berth into the 2003 ISF Junior Women’s World Championship in Nanjing, China. The National team will train together starting on Dec. 17, prior to departing for Sonora, in a destination that has not yet been determined.

The United States captured gold at the 1987 and 1995 ISF Junior World Championships. In 1999, the last Junior Women’s World Championship, the USA finished second behind Japan.

The Amateur Softball Association is responsible for identifying, selecting and training male and female athletes to compete in World, Pan American and Olympic competitions.

The Notre Dame softball team continues its fall exhibition season on Sunday, Sept. 29, with a doubleheader against Northwestern at Ivy Field (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.).
