Softball Drops Second Straight One-Run Game To Missouri, 4-3

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the second straight game, the Notre Dame softball team lost to Missouri by one run as the Tigers swept the doubleheader with a 4-3 win in the nightcap. With the loss, the Irish, who lost 5-4 in 10 innings in the first game, fell to 4-3 on the year, while the Tigers improved to 8-4.

The Irish got on the board first, scoring two runs on a pair of RBI doubles by sophomore catcher Jarrah Myers (Carbondale, Kan.) and junior outfielder Dani Klayman (San Diego, Calif.). Notre Dame then added to their lead with another run in the third after sophomore Jennifer Kriech (Indianapolis, Ind.) walked to lead-off the inning and then scored on junior Jennifer Sharron’s (Agoura Hills, Calif.) double down the left field line.

Notre Dame starting pitcher Michelle Moschel (Naples, Fla.) held the Tigers scoreless until the fourth inning when Kristen Burke scored on a ground out and Erin Erickson scored on an RBI single by Karen Williams. In the top of the fifth, the Tigers pushed across two runs including what proved to be the winning run when Sara Vassmer scored on Linda Swarts’ sacrifice fly.

Moschel (1-3) took the loss for the second straight game, while Missouri pitcher Stephanie Falk (4-2) won her second straight decision.

The Irish, now 0-2 for the tournament, face host Arkansas Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
