FULLERTON, Calif. — The Notre Dame softball team extended its win streak to 11 games as the Irish got by the Cal State Northridge Matadors 1-0 in day one action Wednesday at the 2000 Kia Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Irish improved to 15-4 this season, its best start ever, while the Matadors dropped to 11-11- 1.

Notre Dame got another great performance from pitcher Jennifer Sharron (Agoura Hills, Calif.), who allowed just four hits in picking up her eighth win of the season. Sharron, who has yet to allow a run in her last 33 innings, recorded her fifth solo shutout of the season.

The Irish scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the second inning when freshman Andrea Loman (Riverside, Calif.) singled, stole second and then scored on junior Dani Klayman’s (San Diego, Calif.) RBI single through the right side.

The Matadors had a number of good scoring chances in both the top of the second and the top of the fifth with runners at second and third and one out, but failed to convert on both opportunities.

The Irish face third-ranked Arizona State Thursday at Fullerton Junior College in day two action of the 2000 Kia Classic at 11 a.m.
