Slaggert Invited To Team USA’s World Junior Camp

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Sophomore forward Landon Slaggert has been named to the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team Preliminary Roster, USA Hockey announced today (Nov. 30). Slaggert will be looking to make Team USA for the second consecutive season as he was part of last season’s gold medal winning Team USA.

Team USA’s training camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan will start on December 12.

The 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship will take place in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta with play opening December 26, 2021. There will be four games on the first day, including the United States versus Slovakia in Group B. The tournament will conclude with the gold medal game on January 5, 2022.

At last season’s World Junior Tournament, Slaggert skated in all seven games for Team USA and became the first Fighting Irish player to medal at the event since 2018 – when current Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Andrew Peeke helped the U.S. secure the bronze in Buffalo. Slaggert’s gold marked the eighth medal by a Notre Dame player at the event as he also joined Anders Bjork (bronze in 2016), Mario Lucia (gold in 2013), Kyle Palmieri (gold in 2010 and bronze in 2011), Kyle Lawson (bronze in 2007) and Ben Simon (silver in 1997).

Last season, Slaggert became the 23rd Notre Dame player to take part in the World Junior Championship and the South Bend, Indiana native will look to join Palmieri (2010/11), Ian Cole (2008/09), Rob Globke (2001/02), Connor Dunlop (2000/01), Simon (1997/98) and Jack Brownschidle (1977/79) as two-time Irish participants.

This season, Slaggert has four goals and four assists for eight points in 13 games for the Irish. His four goals are tied for fourth on the team, while he has a power-play goal to go along with 10 penalty minutes.

During his freshman season, Slaggert played 25 games and was Notre Dame’s third-leading scorer with 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists. His eight goals tied for second on the team, while his 14 assists ranked third. He finished the season with seven multi-point games, each coming in the second semester and was on a seven-game point streak when the season came to an end.
