Former Notre Dame women's basketball All-America point guard Skylar Diggins was named the 2013 March of Dimes Sportswoman of the Year at a gala luncheon Wednesday in New York City.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Former University of Notre Dame women’s basketball All-American Skylar Diggins was honored Wednesday as the Sportswoman of the Year at the 30th annual March of Dimes Sports Luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

Diggins was one of four honorees at the event. Others feted were Jon Miller of the NBC Sports Group (corporate leadership award), Brett Yormark of the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center (sports leadership award) and former New York Yankee pitcher Mariano Rivera (sportsman of the year).

Ernie Johnson of Turner Sports and Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports served as emcees for the event, which drew 800 attendees.

An impressive list of sports and broadcasting celebrities was introduced prior to the luncheon program including former Notre Dame basketball star Ruth Riley, NBC Sports Notre Dame football play-by-play announcer Dan Hicks and IMG Notre Dame football radio play-by-play voice Don Criqui.

The event raised more than $1 million for the March of Dimes.
