Six Irish Swimmers Earn CSCAA Honorable Mention All-America Accolades

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Six University of Notre Dame men’s swimming student-athletes who earned All-America honors in March at the 2013 NCAA Championship also received honorable mention All-America distinction from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the organization announced Tuesday.

Seniors Bill Bass and John McGinley, junior Frank Dyer and sophomores Kevin Hughes, Zach Stephens and John Williamson were each the recipients of honorable mention All-America accolades.

Dyer competed in seven events at the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis, finishing the meet with his second career All-America citation (800 freestyle relay). Dyer posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle at the 2012 NCAA Championship.

Hughes, McGinley and Bass made up the rest of the Notre Dame lineup in the 800 free relay squad that recorded a time of 6:25.32 to finish in 16th place. It was the best finish at the NCAA meet for an Irish relay team in program history.

Stephens earned what at the time was the third all-time Notre Dame individual All-America scroll after a 16th-place result in the 200 breast. Stephens clocked in with a time of 1:56.43 in his final race of the 2013 season.

Williamson logged the best Irish finish of the 2013 NCAA Championship, navigating the 200 fly in 1:44.18 to place 13th.

All-America honors are conferred upon those athletes who finish in the top-8 of an individual or relay event at their respective NCAA Championship. Athletes who finish in places 9-16 in the consolation finals of individual or relay events at their respective NCAA Championship receive honorable mention All-America recognition.
