NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame sports information office recently received seven honors at the 2009 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) publications awards ceremony, the 52nd such installment of the event, held during the annual CoSIDA convention in San Antonio, Texas. In total, six Irish varsity sports guides received seven awards, with two going to the Notre Dame women’s basketball guide.

In addition, the fencing guide was selected as the “best in the nation” with the baseball and women’s basketball guides receiving “best in the district” accolades. Along with being named “best in the district,” the women’s basketball guide was also selected as the ninth-best guide nationally. The men’s tennis guide was also recognized nationally, as it was tabbed the fifth-best tennis guide in the nation. Two other Irish guides, women’s soccer and men’s basketball, were selected as “second in the district” recipients.

The 2008-09 Notre Dame sports information staff included senior associate athletics director John Heisler, assistant athletics director/sports information director Bernadette Cafarelli, director of football media relations Brian Hardin, assistant SIDs Michael Bertsch, Sean Carroll, Tim Connor, Alan George and Chris Masters, and SID interns Dan Colleran and Stephanie Fischer. Cindy Lemcke of Ave Maria Press in South Bend served as the primary designer for the women’s soccer, women’s basketball, baseball, men’s tennis and fencing guides, with Cathy Scholz of C Graphics in Granger, Ind. helping with the design for the men’s basketball guide.

The SIDs who wrote and edited the respective media guides noted in this release were as follows: Cafarelli (men’s basketball), Masters (women’s soccer and women’s basketball), Bertsch (baseball) and Colleran (men’s tennis and fencing).

Oklahoma led the way at the awards ceremony, taking home 21 certificates, which were dispersed amongst eight guides, three posters and a special events program.
