Short, Braun Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior goalkeeper Gerick Short (Mobile, Ala.) and freshman forward Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany) have been honored by the BIG EAST Conference for their performances in Notre Dame’s two wins last week over Eastern Michigan (5-2) and Syracuse (2-0). Short earned goalkeeper-of-the week honors for the second time this season, while Braun was named the league’s rookie of the week for the first time in his career.

Short totaled eight saves in the two games and allowed just two goals in 180 minutes of action. In posting his fourth shutout of the season, he made six saves against the Orangemen. He also stopped two shots in the 5-2 win over the Eagles which ended Notre Dame’s three-game losing streak. Short has started all 10 games for the 5-4-1 Irish and has played all 947 minutes. He has a 1.05 goals against average and has made 43 saves for a .796 save percentage.

Braun had three goals and an assist as he leads the team in scoring with five goals and an assist for 11 points. He scored both of Notre Dame’s goals in the 2-0 win over Syracuse and added a goal and an assist against Eastern Michigan. He has started all 10 games and has produced game-winning scores in two of those contests.
