Sheehan Finishes Third At World University Finals

Ailish Sheehan, a 2016 Notre Dame graduate and `16 CRCA Second-Team All-American, helped Great Britain’s Women’s Four finish third at the World University Championships in Poznan, Poland, on Sunday, Sept. 4.

Sheehan and Rebecca Edwards, Annie Withers and Gillian Mary Cooper crossed the finish line in 6:44.29 behind Germany (6:40.14) in first and Italy (6:43.25) in second place.

Sheehan joins Rio Olympic Gold Medal Winner Amanda Polk (`08, in the United States Women’s Eight), Molly Bruggeman (`14, finished second at the World Rowing Championships in the United States Women’s Four), Ellen Gleadow (`16, finished seventh at the U-23 World Rowing Championships with the Canadian Lightweight Double Sculls) and sophomore Molly Pierce (finished eighth at the U-23 World Rowing Championships with the Lightweight Quadruple Sculls) to give the Shamrock Sisters four international competitions over the summer of 2016.

Holding dual citizenship with the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sheehan (a native of Kildare County, Limerick, Ireland) is currently pursuing an advanced degree at the University of London after graduating from Notre Dame with a degree in design. Sheehan has also competed for the Ireland rowing program, taking fourth in the Women’s Four at the 2013 U-23 World Rowing Championships in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria.
