Shane Doss And Conor Doyle Capture ACC Weekly Accolades

April 7, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A pair of University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse student-athletes have garnered weekly accolades from the Atlantic Coast Conference for their performances in Saturday’s 15-10 victory at No. 7 Duke. Sophomore goalie Shane Doss was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, while senior attackman Conor Doyle was selected as the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Doss (Glen Ridge, N.J.) made a career-high 17 saves in the victory over Duke, which was Notre Dame’s third win of the season over a top-10 opponent. He made nine saves and allowed just four goals in the first half. Doss and the Notre Dame defense limited Duke’s leading scorer Myles Jones to just one goal and one assist in the game.

Doss boasts a 6-1 record this season and he ranks sixth nationally in save percentage (.596) and 11th in goals-against average (8.01). He has made 10 or more saves in six of his seven starts this season.

Doyle (Towson, Md.) registered a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists. The point and assist marks were career-high totals for the senior captain, who shared this week’s ACC honor with North Carolina’s Joey Sankey. All three of Doyle’s goals and two of his assists came in the first half as Notre Dame jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead over the Blue Devils.

Saturday signified Doyle’s second hat trick of the season and he was one of four Irish players who netted three goals in the contest. Doyle has 14 goals and 11 assists this season.

The Fighting Irish have copped six ACC weekly citations in the last four weeks. Notre Dame has produced the league’s defensive player of the week four straight weeks, with Doss and junior defenseman Matt Landis both receiving the honor twice. Doyle is the second Fighting Irish player to garner the conference’s offensive award. Freshman Mikey Wynne was the recipient on March 16.

No. 1 Notre Dame (7-1) returns to the field later today when the Irish play host to No. 15 Marquette (9-2). The game is slated for 4 p.m. (ET) at Arlotta Stadium and it can be seen on ESPN3.
