NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s lacrosse senior long-stick midfielder John Sexton added another accolade to his already long list of accomplishments, as he was named an honorary recipient of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Weaver-James-Corrigan Award. The award is part of the ACC’s postgraduate scholarship program.

Sexton is the only men’s lacrosse player in the ACC to receive the scholarship. This marks the second straight season the men’s lacrosse program has had a student-athlete receive the honor, as former standout Sergio Perkovic earned the distinguishment last season.

The Sudbury, Massachusetts, native has been a standout both on and off the field for the Irish over his four years at Notre Dame. Sexton earned USILA First Team All-American honors following the 2017 campaign. As a junior, he was named to the All-ACC Team and All-ACC Academic Team.

Sexton has played an integral role in the team’s success over the last few seasons. The LSM led the Irish to an appearance in the NCAA Championship semifinals (2015) and NCAA Championship quarterfinals (2016 & 2017) as well as the 2017 ACC Tournament final. He was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2017.

The senior is a two-time All-ACC selection (2016, 2017). Sexton has scored eight goals in his career and has created havoc on defense, forcing 52 turnovers and scooping 131 ground balls.

Sexton is a two-time ACC All-Academic recipient and is majoring in finance in the Mendoza College of Business with a minor in sustainability. Sexton already has a full-time job lined after graduation, as he will work for Marathon Capital as an investment banking analyst. Over the past two summers, Sexton interned with Piper Jaffray Companies, a full-service investment bank and asset management firm in 2017 and Compass Point Research & Trading as an investment banking summer analyst in 2016.

The senior is also involved in the community, as Sexton has been a mentor at Dickinson Fine Arts Academy, a local middle school, for the last three years. For the efforts the Notre Dame men’s lacrosse program was presented the ACC/United Way “Game Changers” Award.
