ACC Press Release

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For her standout showing at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, University of Notre Dame senior Molly Seidel has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Seidel headlined the Notre Dame cross country team’s performance Friday in Madison, Wis., claiming runner-up honors in the women’s championship race. Setting her pace early, Seidel led the pack after the 2k point. Neck-and-neck with Boise State freshman Allie Ostrander down the stretch, Seidel ultimately came up short of snagging the victory; however, her second-place finish in a 6k time of 19:22.4 set the tone for her fellow Irish racers and secured her standing among the nation’s best.

A native of Hartland, Wis., the meet served as a homecoming for Seidel and marked her second competitive race this season after placing third at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. Individually, she stands third in the national women’s rankings, according to Flotrack.org.

With a pair of finishers – Seidel and Anna Rohrer – in the top-15, the Notre Dame women’s team ranked 12th overall with 415 points at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. Historically a competitive field, the meet showcased 20 ranked women’s teams. As a result, Notre Dame jumped to second in the critical U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes regional rankings.

This is the first ACC weekly honor for Notre Dame this season.
