The University of Notre Dame rowing team finished strong at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Sacramento, California, on Sunday, April 9. The Irish faced Gonzaga and UCF, both of which are receiving votes in this week’s CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll, in three races to complete a weekend of competition against several of the nation’s top rowing teams.
The Second Varsity Eight ended its weekend with a victory in the second race of the morning, as Mara Bhalla, Christine Schindele-Murayama, Bailey Amenabar, Erin Dolan, Bridget Adam, Moira Hamilton, Elizabeth Walter, Kelly Fischer and coxswain Samantha Hedrick finished first in 6:39.32. Gonzaga took second (6:46.00) and UCF third in 6:50.50.
The meet ended for the Irish with a battle to the end in the First Varsity Eight race. Gonzaga would end up finishing less than a second in front of the Irish, edging Notre Dame 6:35.35 to 6:36.80.
