JAMAICA, N.Y. – Senior forwards Amy Warner and Amanda Guertin registered second-half goals as the second-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win at St. John’s, in BIG EAST Conference cross-divisional action Thursday afternoon on the artificial turf surface at Belson Stadium.

Notre Dame (5-0-0) – which entered the week ranked fifth nationally in scoring with 5.0 goals per game – failed to find the net in the first half despite an 8-1 shot advantage. Sophomore forward Katie Thorlakson then set up the first goal early in the second half, on a back pass to the top of the box. Warner took the pass and ripped a crossing shot from the left side, with the ball ticking off the fingertips of ‘keeper Tracy Rollins and settling into the far right side of the net for the 31st goal of her Notre Dame career (56:57).

Guertin notched her 41st career goal in the closing moments of the game, after an Irish counter-attack. Sophomore forward Maggie Manning sent the ball to Guertin, who maneuvered her way to the top of the box before chipping a shot over Rollins to complete the scoring (89:28).

The Irish finished with an 18-6 overall shot advantage (10-2 in shots on target) while attempting seven corner kicks to SJU’s two. St. John’s fell to 1-4-0 with the loss.

Warner’s goal was the 10th gamewinner of her career, joining Guertin (16) as one of nine Notre Dame players ever to register double-digit GWGs.

Guertin and Warner’s combined game-winning goal total (26) already ranks fourth all-time among Notre Dame classmates, behind Michelle McCarthy and Rosella Guerrero’s 34 from 1992-95, Jenny Heft and Jenny Streiffer’s 34 from ’96-’99, and Anne Makinen and Meotis Erikson’s 29 from ’97-’00.

The Irish now have outscored the opposition 22-3 while outshooting the opponents 100-38 through the first five games.
