Sean Rogers Named BIG EAST Offensive Player Of The Week

April 24, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame senior attackman Sean Rogers (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Holy Trinity) has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for men’s lacrosse. Rogers tallied a game-high four points on three goals and one assist in Saturday’s 10-7 win at Villanova.

All three of Rogers’ goals occurred during Notre Dame’s 8-0 run, which reversed Villanova’s 4-0 lead. His first goal sliced the Wildcat lead to two (4-2), while his second goal tied the game (4-4) and he completed his hat trick by giving Notre Dame its first lead of the game (5-4). Rogers assisted on the final goal of the contest to secure his third four-point game of the season.

This is the second time this season that Rogers has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. He also earned the accolade on March 5. Rogers, who has a team-high 16 goals this season, is the only player in the league to garner the honor twice during the 2012 campaign. He also has been named to the conference’s weekly honor roll twice this season (March 19 & March 26).

The third-ranked Fighting Irish (10-1, 5-0) will conclude the regular season when they play host to No. 17 Syracuse (7-6, 3-2) on Saturday. Faceoff is slated for 5 p.m. (ET) at Arlotta Stadium. The game will be aired live on ESPNU/ESPN3. Notre Dame already has clinched the top seed for next week’s BIG EAST Championship.
