NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame men’s golfer Max Scodro has been tabbed BIG EAST Men’s Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference Wednesday. It is the second straight week that Scodro has received the league’s weekly accolade.
Scodro earned the recognition after earning his seventh top-25 finish of the season, tying for fourth place at the Linger Longer Invitational. The tournament featured four teams (out of 12) ranked in the national top-30 and included nine individuals who ranked in the Golfstat Cup rankings, including Scodro at 84th.
The Chicago, Ill., native posted the lowest tournament score of the season by an Irish golfer, finishing the 54-hole tournament with a score of 211 (-5). That mark improved on the previous best Notre Dame result by one stroke, which came two weeks ago at the Schenkel Invite when Scodro carded a 212 (-4).
Dating back to the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate (Oct. 31-Nov. 1), Scodro has now posted seven straight rounds of even-par or better golf, including two rounds that have broken 70. All told, the Irish senior leads the team in both under-par (10) and even-par (4) rounds and has posted the team-leading effort at six of the seven stroke play tournaments on the year. Additionally, his 71.43 season stroke average currently ranks as the lowest in Irish program history, besting Cole Isban’s ’06-07 mark of 72.71.
Scodro and the Irish return to the links April 9-10 when they head to Houston, Texas, to compete in the All-American Intercollegiate at The Woodlands Golf Course.
