Schmidt, Chisholm medal to wrap up ACCs

RALEIGH, N.C. — After three days of competition at NC State, the 2023 ACC Championships have come to a close for outdoor track and field. On Saturday, Madison Schmidt and Sonia Chisholm closed out the meet with a silver and bronze medal, respectively.

Schmidt, a junior from outside of Minneapolis, took second in the women’s high jump (1.79M). It was a season best for the field specialist and just 0.04 meters shy of gold.

In the final individual women’s track event of the meet, Chisholm notched a third place finish in the women’s 5000M (15:57.74). After a year at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, the first-year Irish distance runner is already making a huge impact for Notre Dame.

Senior Katie Ryan just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the women’s 800M, but she posted a personal best in the event of 2:03.88.

The women finished the meet with a seventh-place finish, while the men were ninth.

Up next, both the men’s and women’s team will participate in the NCAA Regional Championships at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. The May 24-27 meet will determine who heads to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Championships from June 7-10.
